Why are annual wellness exams and periodic screening important for pets?

Because pets can't speak and cannot tell us when they feel sick.  Therefore, routine wellness examines are essential for the prevention and early detection of disease.  All pets should be examined by a veterinarian every 6-12 months, and more frequently for older patients and patients with ongoing medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, glaucoma, kidney disease, liver disease, allergies, and more.

Because pets will actively hide signs of illness until late in the course of disease. This stems from their survival instincts, and makes early detection of disease more difficult.

Because our pets age much faster than we do.  Check out the chart at the bottom of this page to approximate your pet's age in "human" years.
